Jean Louis Martin is an associate fellow (on Latin America) at the French Institute for International Relations (Ifri). Jean Louis Martin is a confirmed economist, with a global vision of the world economy and an in-depth knowledge of the "emerging world". He has been working for more than 40 years on emerging countries, with various long-term assignments out of his home country, in Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, Cape Verde and Mexico.
After graduating from the National School of Statistics and Economic Administration (ENSAE), he worked for several years as a consultant in macroeconomics, public finance and economic statistics and with the French Development Agency (AFD). He then joined the banking sector, with rising responsibilities in research teams, but also in commercial functions in international banking. From 2018, he has resumed a consultancy activity in economics with the World Bank (macroeconomics, financing for development), the United Nations (financing of adaptation to climate change), the AFD (evaluations). He speaks French, English, Spanish and some Portuguese.
