In June 2024, the Republic of Korea (ROK) hosted its very first Africa Summit, marking a significant milestone in its engagement with the continent. The main objective of this summit was to enable Korea to enhance its role in supporting the development and economic progress of African nations. Drawing on its unique journey from a developing country to an industrial and technological powerhouse, Korea aims to share its experience with its African partners.
The South Korean government has already demonstrated its commitment by announcing a doubling of its official development assistance for Africa by 2030. Additionally, the private sector, particularly start-ups, will be strongly encouraged to increase direct investments in the region, thereby fostering sustainable growth and development.
France, with its historical involvement in Africa and numerous commitments in diplomacy, economy, and culture, has a deep understanding of the African continent. In this context, this conference will provide a platform for a shared discussion on the evolving African landscape, examining key takeaways from the first Africa-ROK Summit. Furthermore, it will serve as an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen cooperation between France and Korea in Africa, particularly in the realm of the private sector and start-ups.
