Sylvia Malinbaum is Head of India and South Asia Research at Ifri's Center for Asian Studies. Before joining Ifri in 2024, she served as Deputy Financial Advisor at the Regional Economic Service for South Asia within the French embassy in India, working under the Directorate General of the Treasury at the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industry. Based at the French consulate in Mumbai, she was responsible for fostering economic cooperation between France and Western India and supporting French companies interested in the Indian market.

Sylvia worked for seven years at the Directorate General of the Treasury, exclusively in international postings in Kenya, Egypt, and then India. She holds a Master’s degree in Management from ESCP Business School, following two years of preparatory classes at Lycée Louis-le-Grand.
