Benjamin Augé has been an Associate Research Fellow at Ifri since June 2010. He holds a PhD in geography from the French Institute of Geopolitics (University of Paris 8) and is also Head of Investigative Reporting at Africa Intelligence. He teaches in the Executive Master’s programs at HEC and Sciences Po Paris, where he covers the geopolitics of oil and gas in Africa, cooperation between Gulf countries and African states, and a course comparing the African policies of the P5 members. He is also a guest lecturer at the Netherlands Diplomatic Academy (Clingendael).
His research focuses on governance in the oil and gas sectors in African countries. He is particularly interested in conflicts between different actors (local, national, and international) over the control of oil areas, as well as border disputes related to oil and gas fields.
Benjamin Augé also works extensively on relations between the African continent and external powers, especially in the Gulf (Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE) and the Middle East (Israel and Turkey).
Finally, he focuses on African Union affairs and has published several studies with Ifri’s Africa Center.
