Documentation about Ifri
In the context of shifting global power dynamics, space has emerged as a key sector in contemporary international relations. Despite its widely recognized critical role, the space sector is currently experiencing economic difficulties. It faces a rapidly changing political and economic environment, coupled with the emergence of New Space, which has disrupted the industry. This situation particularly affects Europe, whose industry is highly dependent on export markets.
Given the interdependence between geopolitical dynamics and developments specific to the space industry, it has become essential to address these issues within a strategic framework to tackle today's challenges.
Space Network
Created by two leading French think tanks, this network aims to support a strategic vision by fostering a framework of relationships between public authorities (space agencies, specialized public bodies, military), the industrial sector (traditional players, start-ups) and the research community (universities, centers of excellence). At the end of the year, participants will be invited to join the "Alumni" network, whose members will be invited to participate in some of the activities of subsequent classes.
The network will address contemporary issues shaping the space sector: access to space, dual use, space economy, implications and limits of New Space, militarization of space, satellite constellations, orbital congestion, new international space competition, and strategic autonomy.
The network aims to connect space issues to the fields of international relations and the themes studied by Ifri and FRS (geopolitics of technologies, energy and climate, United States, Asia, defense and security).
The network is aimed at young professionals interested in strategic, industrial and political space issues.
Philippe Baptiste, Chairman and CEO of CNES, has agreed to sponsor the Class of 2025.
Proposed activities
The program will include seminars and conferences throughout the year, as well as visits to space-related sites.
Over the next few years, the network aims to increase the number of auditors and expand the scope of its activities.
Candidates' profile
Applicants must be under 35 years of age.
The network primarily targets nationals of the European Union or member states of the European Space Agency (ESA).
As the network's activities will be conducted in French, a good command of the language will be a determining factor.
No specific career path or academic field is targeted, and the selection process will seek to ensure a diversity of profiles within the graduating class, in order to enrich the exchanges.
For the first edition, fifteen auditors will be selected.
The deadline for applications is December 10, 2024.

Support independent French research
Ifri, a foundation recognized as being of public utility, relies largely on private donors – companies and individuals – to guarantee its sustainability and intellectual independence. Through their funding, donors help maintain the Institute's position among the world's leading think tanks. By benefiting from an internationally recognized network and expertise, donors refine their understanding of geopolitical risk and its consequences on global politics and the economy. In 2024, Ifri will support more than 70 French and foreign companies and organizations.
