The British company Vodafone managed to cut losses due to its strong performance in India, and Swiss Holcim, the world's second largest cement maker, spent more than 2 billion Swiss Francs on acquisitions in India to counter the weakening housing market in the United States of America (USA). These strategies reflect the contribution from one of the fastest-growing economies in the world (9.3% growth for thefirst quarter of the fiscal year 2007/2008).
