A New Player in the Indo-Pacific? South Korea’s New Southern Policy
Practical information
Registration for this event is now closed.
President Moon launched the New Southern Policy as a key diplomatic initiative to strenghen the relationship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and India. The comprehensive scheme is resting on the “three Ps” of People, Prosperity and Peace.
This conference will examine the motivations, objectives, and means of, as well as possible challenges to, this policy, through an analysis of economic and trade cooperation on the one hand (Prosperity) and diplomatic and security cooperation on the other (People and Peace). A key question is to figure out whether this initiative will allow South Korea to carve out a niche among the various “Indo-Pacific” schemes that aim to shape the region.

Paris Naval Conference 2025: Naval Power and the Challenges of Securing Maritime Autonomy

As such, it seems inexorably destined to (re)become an essential issue for the navies in charge of securing maritime activities.
