Abstract:

The following paper argues that the current political and social developments taking place in Iran are firmly situated within historical developments in Iranin the 20th century. Drawing on the lessons of the Constitutional Revolutionists of 1906 and the national Front movement of 1951-1953, as well as the ideals of the early days of the Islamic Revolution, today's Reformists represent the culmination of a social process imbued with a powerful myth of political emancipation. The accelerating momentum being gained by the Reformist agenda reflects the fact that there is growing harmony between ideological aspirations and social reality.
