AbstractFor Poland, the European Policy for Security and Defense (EPSD) represents one of the European Union’s essential pillars and constitutes the best protection against the renationalization of security policies within Europe. But EPSD should not either replace or duplicate NATO. Over and above the idea of a common horizon, It must allow european nations to provide for their own security while preventing any new divisions from appearing between these nations. With this in mind, it is now high time for Europe to be moving from grand designs to practical implementation. Capacities must to this end be linked to real needs as well as to their practical relevance in the field, while a common strategic culture must accompany the adoption, by member states as a whole, of a european strategy adapted to the new international environment.
