Abstract:

After fifteen years of negotiations, China has joined the WTO. The concessions granted will affect every sector. Whereas the impact of accession is likely to be positive in the long term, the short-term adjustment costs may be high for the Chinese economy. From a political point of view, the accession to the WTO seems likely to promote internal reforms.
