Mission statement

A presence in Brussels is essential to take an active part in the debate on the future of the European Union. Ifri’s office in Brussels opened in 2005 and acts as an interface between Ifri’s research activities and researchers, and the European institutions, Brussels-based think tanks and researchers, the private sector, and the media.

The Brussels office contributes to Ifri’s research activities by focusing on strategic issues related to the EU and NATO. It also provides regular updated analyses on the economic and political situation of a series of European countries.

Activities

Events in Brussels

Ifri Brussels holds events related to strategic issues for the EU and NATO. Allowing for a variety of open and restricted formats, these events bring together policymakers, European, national, and regional officials, researchers, opinion leaders, representatives from the private sector and journalists.

« Energy Breakfast Roundtables »

Ifri’s Center for Energy is based both in Paris and Brussels. It organizes monthly roundtables in Brussels around renowned experts on key issues related to energy. The Center for Energy also holds very restricted seminars on specific issues.

European and international conferences

Ifri holds international conferences in Brussels. In 2010, it launched the high-level Brussels Think Tank Dialogue together with the Bertelsmann Stiftung. This annual conference gathers 10 think tanks to address the state of the EU and promote innovative policy ideas. In 2013, it focused on “Federalism or Fragmentation: Spelling out Europe’s F-word”. Speakers included Herman van Rompuy, President of the European Council, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and several experts and officials from Europe and beyond.

Ifri Brussels acts as contact point for Ifri within the European Policy Institute Network (EPIN).
